It all Started when when Republican Congressmen Pete Sessions (TX) and Mike Fitzpatrick decided they were going to miss the swearing in Ceremony in order to attend a fundraiser for Representative Fitzpatrick in the Capitol Visitors Center. That in itself poses a problem according to House Ethics rules which prohibits fundraisers from being held in federal buildings. These two Republicans then went ahead and violated the constitution AGAIN. Article VI Paragraph 3 of the US constitution explicitly states;
"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation...."Both Fitzpatrick and Sessions voted eight times on the House Floor before being sworn in to Office. OUCH...... I wonder what the Teabaggers will say???
Republicans are also ready to shred the constitutional rights of some people, they are vowing to repeal the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution which was ratified in 1868 and gives birthright Citizenship to everyone born on U.S Soil. This effort is an obvious attempt at appealing to their racist base like the ones who have no problem admiting they only want to protect the rights of "Non minority Americans". Leading the charge is Representative Steve King (R-IA) the new Ranking member of the Immigration Subcommittee. King, a Well known racist has Accused President Obama of being Racist, He was also the only member of congress that voted against a bill to erect a plaque in the vistor's center that would have recognized the contributions of African American slaves in the building of the Capitol, Empathized with the anti-tax Suicide bomber who flew a plane into the IRS building in Texas and was also seen as a threat by the Secret Service for giving money to Terrorists in Ireland in the 80s.
The circus cannot be complete without Minessota Republican and Tea Party Darling Michelle Bachmann. Bachmann was named to the House Intelligence committee..... no I SWEAR IT IS NO JOKE!!
Michelle Bachmann claimed "Not all Cultures are Equal".
She accused Democrats of being behind the Swine Flu outbreaks.
Made the incorrect claim that Carbon Dioxide is "Harmless.
Bachmann who also claimed that Gay Marriage is the biggest issue that will Impact America for AT LEAST the next 30 years.
That is just the tip of the Iceberg, I am pretty sure most Americans can agree that Bachmann is INSANE, and not in a good way. Republicans are playing with fire and putting our country's security at risk by putting this psychopath on the Intelligence committee.
The other surprise of the day was the announcement that Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC) will chair the Higher education committee. At a time when the country is dealing with an epidemic of gay suicides as a result from Homophobic bullying. Republicans have appointed one of the most homophobic members of Congress they could find. Lets look back at a few of the things Representative Foxx has said....
She claim that Mathew Shepard's murder was a hoax while Matthew Shepard's mother was in the Gallery of the House of Representatives. Anyone who is cruel enough to tell a mother that her gay son's murder was a hoax should NOT be allowed to Chair a higher education Committee. Foxx is unfit for this post. Her opposition to the DREAM Act (Development , Relief and Education of Alien Minors Act) shows that She has no interesting in what is right for this country. The DREAM Act would have allowed Children of Undocumented immigrants who were brought as children the chance to gain legal status by attending college or serving the military. The Bill is a no brainer. It would have cut the deficit by 1.4 Billion Dollars over the next ten years according to the Congressional Budget Office. The bill would have also improved graduation rates amongst hispanics which would in turn stimulate the economy. Virginia Foxx's opposition to this bill is pure bigotry.
Let's see what surprises this congress will bring. The Tea Party Circus is in Control and there will be plenty to talk about....
